Faced with long waits and lines for mediocre hotels, Payne asks an older ace pilot if his small single-engine plane can fly them to Denver. The author singles out two people in the crowd, Dr Ben Payne and the soon to be married Ashley Knox. Snowed in, flights cancelled, disappointment and anger all around. The Mountain Between Us (which has several meanings that you will see as you read) begins in a Utah airport. Yep, if you have read Charles Martin, you know this. He knows how to wring out of the heart every last drop of emotion aching grief, disciplined self-control, determined strength when not an ounce is left, loyalty and faithfulness, love, tenderness, restraint, and the wonderful, sweet humor that binds it all together. I’d give this book SIX stars if possible! Anything written by Charles Martin is bound to be a winner, and The Mountain Between Us is no exception. Sad because the trailer made this movie out to have some strong potential and I had higher hopes for this film. Overall I expected more from the film based on the trailer and was surprised at what I ended up getting. The acting from Winslet and Elba in the first two-thirds of the movie is why my grade is as high as it is. Our Grade: C, The final act of the movie is so cheesy that I cannot give the movie a higher grade. It was nice to see such chemistry on screen, but as mentioned the final third fell short of what I was expecting from the movie. Overall the performances of the two actors carried the movie. The trailer makes the movie look one way, but the movie turns out being something else. What We Think: The movie delivered two good performances from Elba and Winslet as expected, but overall the movie fell flat near the final third of the movie. It is a story of survival and how far the human spirit can be pushed to overcome such infinite obstacles. Trapped in the wilderness with only each other, Ben and Alex must do anything they can to survive the harsh weather. While up in the air, the pilot has a stroke and the plane ends up crashing. Ben needs to be at the hospital for a surgery the next day and Alex is getting married that same day. They end up chartering a private plane last minute. What It Is: Ben Bass (Elba) and Alex Martin (Winslet) are grounded from their flights by an incoming snow storm. Starring: Idris Elba, Kate Winslet, Dermot Mulroney
